Guide: How to order and mount leather handles

Our different handles
We make handles in two different models. Our LOOP handles are mounted with one screw, forming a loop. Our BAND handles are mounted with two screws. Both models are available in four colors and various sizes. Screws are included with the handles, so they are ready for installation. The screws are available in two different models and three different colors.
Measuring relevant dimensions
When you order handles from us, we need to know the thickness of the drawer/door on which the handle will be mounted. We need to know the thickness of the drawer/cabinet to send screws of the correct length.
If you order our BAND handles, we also need to know the distance between the two holes that the handle should fit.
How to measure the thickness of the drawer/cabinet
You can, for example, measure the thickness with a folding rule, a ruler, or a caliper. If you are ordering handles for kitchen cabinet doors, the thickness is typically 16 or 19 mm.
If you want to mount the handle on a wall, simply note "mount on wall" in the field where we ask you to state the thickness of the drawer/cabinet. We will then send a wood screw with a corresponding rawplug.
In the picture below, we have shown how to measure the thickness correctly. 
How to measure the distance between the holes (only relevant when ordering BAND handles)
Here you can again use a folding rule, a ruler, or a caliper.
When measuring the distance, you should measure from the center of one hole to the center of the other hole.
Typically, you will be able to use one of our standard-sized handles. If your hole distance does not match one of our standard handles, you can order custom-sized handles. If your measurement deviates from our standard measurement by a few millimeters, you can easily order standard-sized handles – but if there is a larger deviation, we recommend ordering custom sizes. We recommend that custom-sized handles are made for a maximum hole distance of 32 cm.
If you want to mount our BAND handles on doors without pre-drilled holes, we recommend handles in sizes 9.6 cm, 12.8 cm, or 16 cm.
Our BAND handles are available in 6 different standard sizes. If you order a handle in size 9.6 cm, this handle fits a hole distance where there is 9.6 cm from the center of one hole to the center of the other hole.
In the picture below, we have shown how to measure the distance from the center to the center of the two holes.
Choosing screws
Our screws are available in two different models and 3 different colors. The difference between the two screw types is illustrated in the picture below.
Both models fit through holes with a diameter of 5 mm. If your drawers/cabinets have a smaller diameter, we strongly recommend enlarging the hole with a 5 mm drill bit. This is quite easy and only requires a drill bit and a drill. Alternatively, you can contact us before ordering to discuss alternative mounting options.
When ordering LOOP handles, the screws can be used for furniture with the following thickness:
- Tall screw: 1-50 mm
- Short screw: 11-50 mm
When ordering BAND handles, the screws can be used for furniture with the following thickness:
- Tall screw: 1-53 mm
- Short screw: 14-53 mm
If you have furniture that is thicker than this, we can instead send a regular wood screw.
If you wish to mount the handle on a wall, we can also send a wood screw with a corresponding rawplug.
Installing handles
To install the handles, you will need two flat-head screwdrivers. If there are no pre-drilled holes or if the holes have a diameter smaller than 5 mm, you will also need a drill and a 5 mm drill bit.
Once you have removed the old handles and/or drilled the holes to a diameter of 5 mm, you are ready to install your new leather handles. If you are unsure if the holes have the correct diameter, you can pass the included cylinder through the hole. If the cylinder fits in the hole, the hole does not need to be drilled larger.
You feed the screw through the hole in the handle and insert the screw into the hole in the drawer/cabinet. You insert the cylinder into the hole on the back of the drawer/cabinet so that the screw and cylinder meet and are screwed together.
During installation, you should use one screwdriver to hold the cylinder on the back firmly, so that it does not spin when you use the other screwdriver to tighten the screw on the front.
It is important to tighten the screws well so that the handle does not slide around on the cabinet.
Worth knowing about the colors
Our handles are available in four different colors. The natural handle is untreated, while the other three handles are dyed with their respective colors. When the handle is dyed, the surface is saturated, so you can expect the black, cognac, and dark brown handles to largely not change color over time.
Handles in natural color will develop a beautiful patina as they are used. Sunlight, touch, and water are some of the factors that contribute to the handle's patination. On this page, you can see how light leather can change color over time
Frequently asked questions
Can we get a sample sent to us?
If you contact us by email and describe the colors you wish to see, we will gladly send smaller color swatches for you to see before you potentially order - you only need to pay for shipping.
Alternatively, you can start by ordering a single handle. If you do not like the handle, it can be returned, and you will receive a refund. If you order a sample, it is important that you do not tighten the screws too much. If the screws are tightened too much, marks will appear in the leather, and the handle will unfortunately not be accepted for return.
Do the handles need leather care?
The handles can be treated with leather grease, but it is not immediately necessary. The handles maintain their appearance very well even without treatment.
How are the handles cleaned?
We recommend cleaning the handles with a wrung-out cloth.
Can the handles be used in the bathroom, where there is a very humid environment?
The handles can be used in all rooms of the home - including the bathroom. The handles are not damaged by the periodically high humidity that is present in the bathroom.
